Helen Genette (Caddell) Hitchcock

March 9, 1920 — May 4, 2017

Helen Genette Hitchcock, 97, of Amarillo, passed away May 4, 2017 in Burnsville, Minnesota where she resided for the past eight years.

Graveside services will be 2:00 p.m., Monday, May 15, 2017 in Llano Cemetery with Rev. Kevin Deckard officiating. Arrangements are by Schooler Funeral Home, 4100 S. Georgia.

Helen was born March 9, 1920 to William and Lula Tabor Caddell in Texline, Texas. She moved to Amarillo in 1938, attended business school and worked for Kerr Paper Co. She married Byron E. Hitchcock “K-O” on February 11, 1945 in New Orleans and they returned to Amarillo shortly thereafter. She was a loving wife and mother to her family. Helen was an active member of Polk St. United Methodist Church, Suzanna Wesley Sunday School Class, United Methodist Women, Church Women United and many local charities. She worked as a child care provider for 18 years at Tascosa Baptist Church before retiring. Helen and K-O were frequent travelers and enjoyed many vacations with their children and their families.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; and two brothers, Byron and Caylor Caddell.

She is survived by a son, Kim Hitchcock and his wife Linda of Balm, Florida; a daughter, Karen Crisp and her husband Bob of Apple Valley, Minnesota; two grandsons, Lawrence Crisp and his wife Lexi and Alan Crisp; a sister-in-law, Earlene Caddell; a niece, Caylene Caddell; four nephews, Kevin Caddell, Ed Caddell and his wife Lanelle, Lynn Caddell and David Magness; by great-nephews and nieces; and great-great nephews and nieces.

In lieu of flowers the family suggest memorials be made to the Children’s Ministries at Polk Street United Methodist Church, 1401 S. Polk St., Amarillo, Texas 79101.
