James "Jim" Durgin Adams

November 20, 1948 — June 4, 2022

Amarillo

James “Jim” Durgin Adams, 73, of Amarillo made his way into the Holy Kingdom on Saturday, June 4, 2022.

The family will receive guests at Schooler Funeral Home, 4100 S. Georgia in Amarillo, on Monday June 6, 2022 from 5pm to 7pm. Funeral services will take place at Church of Christ at the Colonies, 4500 Wesley Road on Tuesday June 7, 2022 at 2pm with Pastor Derrell Patterson presiding. Jim will be laid to rest in Llano Cemetery next to his beloved Donna. Arrangements are in the care of Schooler Funeral Home of Amarillo.

Jim was born in Clayton, New Mexico on November 20, 1948 to Pete and Maurine (England) Adams. The family relocated to Amarillo, Texas where Jim would graduate from Palo Duro High School. He proudly served in the United States Navy. Following his time in the service, Jim began his career in the Natural Gas Pipeline construction industry and would retire from ONEOK Inc. after 40 plus years of loyal and dedicated service. He even managed to spend a little time on the rodeo circuit riding broncs and roping in his younger years. On May 3, 1981, Jim would marry Donna Patterson and together they would begin building their life until Donna’s passing in 2004.

Jim held a tough as leather exterior, but if you really knew him, he possessed the most kind, loving, and patient heart any man could. He never let you know he was hurting, even in the very end. Jim loved the outdoors. He enjoyed elk hunting, and fishing whenever he could get away. He was an incredibly hard worker, often times staying home while the family vacationed because he “had to tend to the chores.” He kept busy breeding and raising quarter horses and chickens. He was the strongest, most selfless man you would ever meet.

Jim is preceded in death by his parents, his wife Donna, sisters Jan Wheeler, Deanne Knotts, Beth Serratt, and Sylvia Adams, brother Arthur “Larry” Adams; nephew David Knotts, and niece Diana Knotts –Segura. Those left to cherish his memories are his daughter Lori Williams and husband Ryan, sons Brian Adams and wife Wendi, and Cody Adams and wife Nikki, sister Karen Smith and husband Mike; 7 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren, and many beloved nieces, nephews, and dear family and friends.
