Janice Sue Easterday

August 25, 1948 — January 11, 2019

Janice Perkins Easterday, 70, of Amarillo, Tx passed away Friday, January 11, 2019.

Janice was born August 25, 1948, in Amarillo, Tx to Truman and Opal Perkins.  She was united in marriage on August 13, 1983 to Lee Michael Easterday.

Janice attended Palo Duro High School.  She attended Amarillo College, attended and graduated from the former West Texas State University with a degree in Music Education, performed in the outdoor musical drama “Texas”, and with Amarillo Opera.  After graduation she studied voice for one year at the American Institute of Musical Studies in Graz, Austria.

She worked at American Quarter Horse Association and Country Squire Dinner Theater.  At the Country Squire she performed with the pre-show act Country Rogues and served as the box office manager.  During that tenure she was featured in several one woman shows billed as Janice Live!, which featured her signature character ChiChi.

As a performer, comedian, and educator, Janice found her calling at Amarillo College as the Administrative Assistant for Fine Arts as well as teaching voice to theater majors.  During a thirty year career at AC her focus was on the students, for both their education and wellbeing.  At AC in March 1988 Janice would debut “Janice and Friends”, a musical comedy variety show raising money for the Perkins-Olivier Memorial Scholarship Fund, in memory of her parents Truman and Opal Perkins and Danny Olivier, father of her closest friends, Cindy Flippo and Patty Thompson who were former AC employees.  “Janice and Friends” would continue for 14 years resulting in an endowment scholarship.  Janice’s other passion was theater and she was blessed with many supporting and starring roles at Amarillo Little Theatre from 2000 to 2017.

Janice’s wishes were to be cremated and no funeral service.  Donations can be made to the Amarillo College Foundation for the Perkins-Olivier Memorial Scholarship, PO Box 447, 79178, or to Amarillo Little Theatre, 2019 Civic Circle, 79109.
