Jean S. (Stark) Allen

January 17, 1931 — August 9, 2022

Amarillo

Jean Stark Allen passed to her heavenly home on Tuesday, August 9th at the age of 91 years.  She lived a long and wonderful life.

Visitation will be held on Sunday, August 14, 2022 from 2pm to 4pm at Schooler Funeral Home, 4100 S. Georgia. A Celebration of Life service will take place on Monday, August 15, 2022 at 10am at St. Stephens United Methodist Church, 4600 S. Western with Rev. Jim Smith presiding. Burial will be private.

Jean was born on January 17, 1931 in Seagoville, Texas.  She was the youngest of two daughters born to Erwin and Ozella Miller Stark.  Jean was blessed to grow up in the small town of Seagoville, surrounded by many family members and friends.  She graduated from Seagoville High School as salutatorian in 1948.  After graduating, she worked as a secretary in Dallas where she met the love of her life, Charles Ray “Chuck” Allen.  Chuck and Jean were married on May 10, 1955.  They enjoyed 55 years of marriage until the passing of Chuck in 2010.  After their marriage, Chuck’s career led them to Waco and then to Tyler.  They moved to Amarillo in 1964, where they raised their two boys, Clay Allen and Joe Allen.  Jean was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend.  She was a kind, quiet woman who was always taking care of everyone else.  She will be greatly missed by her family and friends.

Chuck and Jean were long-time members of St Stephen United Methodist Church and were members of the Pathfinders Sunday School Class.  Jean enjoyed playing golf, doing crossword puzzles, and playing card games.  She belonged to several bridge clubs and played until the age of 89 years.  Although she was a quiet woman, she was very competitive when it came to cards.  Some of her grandkids favorite memories were playing cards with their “Granny”.  Even after her memory began to fade, she could still beat everyone at the table when playing Uno.

Jean is preceded in death by her husband “Chuck”, an infant son Charles, her parents Erwin and Ozella, grandson Mike Allen, and sister Dolly Stark Smith.  She is survived by her son Clay Allen and wife Debra of Amarillo, son Joe Allen and wife Debbie of Houston, grandson Bryan Allen and wife Magan of Stanton, TX, grandson Brett Allen and wife Amanda of Amarillo, granddaughter Alexa Watson and husband Jeremy of Canyon and her great-grandchildren Creed, Chayil, Aubrey, Avery, Kaeden, Jenna, and Hudsyn.

The family suggests memorials be sent to Faith City Mission, St Stephen United Methodist Church, or charity of choice.
