Jim Dan J.D. Pavillard

June 2, 1926 — August 10, 2017

J. D. Pavillard passed away on August 10, 2017, at the age of 91.

A memorial service to honor his life will be held at Schooler Funeral Home in Amarillo on Monday, August 14 at 10:00AM. Arrangements are by Schooler Funeral Home, 4100 S. Georgia St., Amarillo, Texas 79110.

J.D. was born on June 2, 1926, to Charles Edward and Kathryn Elizabeth in Pullman (aka Pullman Switch), Texas. His childhood was spent on his family’s farm about 7 miles east of Amarillo. After schooling in Amarillo and graduation from Amarillo High School, J.D. served in the Army Air Corp during WWII.  He was very proud to be a Veteran.  J. D. then attended West Texas State, graduating with honors

In Amarillo, J.D. married Wilma Ilene Bentley.  Together, they raised 3 children—Kay, Dan and Debra.     J. D. was an insurance agent his entire adult life.  He moved his family to Borger in 1957 where he was sole proprietor of Borger Insurance Agency and subsequently owned Service Insurance Agency.  J. D. later married Dona Keith Lancaster.

J. D. had many friends and a large family. He loved to laugh—telling jokes and teasing-- and greeted everyone with warmth and a big smile.  He also loved his dogs.   J.D. loved to travel, enjoyed fishing and hunting. He was incredibly intelligent and a voracious reader.  His list of books read since 1999 is well over 2300 books.

In 2003, J. D. planted four small trees at Llano Cemetery among the headstones of his family.  He nurtured these trees for 14 years.  J. D. will be laid to rest where the trees he so devotedly cared for now shade the family he so profoundly loved and missed.

J.D. is survived by his sister, Mary Ann Walton of Arizona; his children, Kay Kesterson of Amarillo; Dan Pavillard, and wife Cindy, of Amarillo; Debra Stein, and husband John, of Dallas; Audrey Lancaster Allison of Santa Fe; Eddie Lancaster, and wife Shawn, of Amarillo; 13 grandchildren; 17 great grandchildren and 12 great-great grandchildren.  He is preceded in death by his parents; wife, Ilene Carter; granddaughter, Jill Sursa; wife, Dona Pavillard and son-in-law, Joe Kesterson.

We wish to thank the many friends including neighbors, Jim, Flo and Betty who followed and admired J.D.’s amazing journey.   In lieu of flowers, the family would be grateful for donations to be made to any of the Amarillo Public Libraries.
