John Wayne Cooley died August 11 in his home in Amarillo, TX. Private family services will be held at a later date.
He was born in Lake Charles, LA, on January 21, 1947, to Richard John Cooley and Maude Martin Cooley.
John graduated from Sulphur High School in Louisiana in 1965 and held a bachelor’s degree from McNeese State University, an MBA from Lamar University, and a Ph.D. in Business from Oklahoma State University.He taught at Stephen F. Austin State University, University of Nebraska at Omaha, Virginia Tech, University of Montana, and Indiana State University.He served as associate dean of the business school at Indiana State University, and business dean at Roosevelt University in Chicago, Fort Hayes State University in Kansas, and West Texas A&M in Canyon, Texas.Growing up, he attended Gospel Lighthouse (now Lighthouse Tabernacle) in Sulphur, Louisiana.More recently, he attended Polk Street United Methodist Church in Amarillo.
John is survived by a son, John Brent Cooley, of Indianapolis, and a daughter, Erin Cooley Hausknecht, of Frenchtown, Montana.He is also survived by grandsons, John Gabriel Cooley and Ian Scott Cooley, and granddaughters, Preslyn June Hausknecht, Charlie Marie Hausknecht, and Oakley Dale Hausknecht.
