Katherine Marie Jones-Steptoe

Katherine Marie Jones-Steptoe, 99, of Amarillo passed away June 3, 2021.

Funeral service will be at 11:00 a.m., Friday, June 11, 2021 at Schooler Funeral Home. Interment will follow in Llano Cemetery. Arrangements are by Schooler Funeral Home.

Katherine was born March 21, 1922 in Osage, OK to Fred and Nannie Jones. She grew up and attended school in Quitaque, TX. Katherine moved to Amarillo, TX in 1945.

Katherine married James Steptoe on December 23, 1954. She received her Vocational Nursing Certificate from Amarillo College in cooperation with St. Anthony’s Hospital in 1961. During her many years as an LVN, she received many awards and other acknowledgements including “Nurse of the Year” award. She united with Mt. Zion Baptist Church and was a faithful member for 76 years and was known as the “Song Bird.”

She is preceded in death by her husband, James Steptoe.

She leaves to mourn her homegoing, nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews, great great-nieces and nephews along with other family, friends and a wonderful church family.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be made to Black Cultural Center, 901 N Hayden, Amarillo, TX 79107 where she was a lifetime member.
