She was a true lady, a fine Christian woman, and a loving and kind person. She married Joseph Haverfield in Sacramento, California in 1957. She worked at Pacific Telephone as the accounting manager. La Ruth was a woman who liked to see that things were done right. She cared for her husband after he became ill until his death. Then she took distant relative who was ill into her home and took care of her for a good while before her death.

She did a fine job of raising her granddaughter, Kelly Neal. La Ruth took delight in orchestrating Kelly’s beautiful wedding like a general when she married Herschel Neal. Fully including him, La Ruth referred to Herschel as her grandson.

La Ruth then lived in Florida for sometime and, at the age of eighty, moved to Amarillo in 2004, where Kelly and Herschel now lived. She was received enthusiastically into Herschel’s family, and was well-loved. La Ruth became the second person to reside at a newly opened retirement home, now known as Brookdale, because they would allow cats. Being without her beloved cats was never a consideration for La Ruth. Always an active person, she resumed her activities in Magna Charta Dames, DAR, and was an associate member of Daughters of the Republic of Texas. She was a devoted member of Saint Thomas the Apostle Church and she volunteered at the Veterans Hospital.

La Ruth will be missed by all who knew her.

She leaves behind daughter, Karen Blachly; granddaughter, Kelly Neal and husband, Herschel and their family; nephew, Randy Wilson; niece, Susan Wilson-Yatsinko; and good friends, Lupe Clark and Josie Burgess

LaRuth will be interred with her husband in Whittier, California.
