Marie Antoinette (Vallone) Hughes

July 17, 1946 — April 7, 2017

Marie Antoinette Hughes, 70 of Amarillo died Friday, April 7, 2017.

Memorial Mass will be 10:00am Monday, April 17, 2017 at St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church with Rev. John Valdez as celebrant. Arrangements are by Schooler Funeral Home, 4100 S. Georgia.

Marie was born July 17, 1946 in Frankfort, New York to Dominick and Mary Vallone. She graduated from Frankfort High School. On June 27, 1981 she married the love of her life, William Hughes.

Marie achieved many degrees from several colleges including three masters and a certificate in advanced studies. She taught in the Rome Public Schools and was a principal at Mt. Carmel in Utica, NY and at St. Peters in Rome.

Marie enjoyed collecting ancient Greek and Roman coins. She owned a wonderful collection of music boxes and was known for her superb Italian cooking. Marie was a founding member of The Italian Club of Amarillo. She was active in church activities at St. Thomas and loved to travel the world.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Marie is survived by her husband of 35 years, William Hughes; three sisters, Clementina Vivacqua and husband Salavator, Barbara Shannon and husband James, and Linda Oyer and partner Scott Carpenter; a brother, Dominick Vallone and wife Antoinette; two nieces, Donna Jones and husband Mark, and Valorie Vallone; a nephew, Mathew Vallone; a great niece, Lauryn Jones; and many more loving family and friends.
