Philip Roland Russ, 74, of Amarillo passed away June 15, 2017.

Funeral Services will be 10:00 A.M., Wednesday, June 21, 2017 at Schooler Funeral Home’s Brentwood Chapel. Arrangements are by Schooler Funeral Home, 4100 S. Georgia, Amarillo, Texas 79110.

Philip Roland Russ, devoted father, amazing lawyer, trusted friend, accomplished chef, loved westerns, wine, classical music, traveling and his ham radio died on Thursday, June 15, 2017. Philip was born to R. G. Russ Jr. and Helen VanDervoort Russ in Wheeler, Texas on June 2, 1943. Philip graduated from Hale Center High School in 1960 and attended Texas Tech University where he earned an undergraduate degree in Government and a minor in English in 1964. After graduating from Texas Tech, Philip moved to Norman, Oklahoma where he attended The University of Oklahoma Law School and earned his Juris Doctorate in 1967. He returned to Texas Tech in 2008 where he earned his MBA with honors. Philip has been a member of the Oklahoma Bar Association for 50 years, and the Texas Bar Association for 49 years. Philip practiced in multiple federal and state courts including the Eastern, Northern, Southern and Western District Courts of Texas; The Western District of Oklahoma; the 3rd, 5th, 6th, 10th and 11th Federal Circuit Courts of Appeals and the U.S. Supreme Court. In total, Philip tried over 300 cases during his career and made frequent appearances arguing before the 5th Circuit in New Orleans. Philip was a founding member of Russ-Green Society N.P.A., which dedicated itself to the highest level of trial practice in the representation of the downtrodden with the highest standards of ethics. Philip loved the law, loved to argue his cases and took great pride in hammering out workloads that kept large firms scrambling. He was also a member of the Masons and Khiva Shrine.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and a nephew Paul Farmer.

Philip is survived by his daughters, Angela Russ Batt and Gretchen Russ-Barnhill; a son, Barton Roland Russ and wife, Ginger; son Benjamin Edgar Russ and wife Beth; eleven grandchildren; sister, Janet Farmer; three nephews; and countless extended family and friends from all over the globe.
