Phyllis Ann Petty Hendrick, 76 of Amarillo died Thursday, July 13, 2017.


Memorial services will be 1:00 p.m., Monday, July 17, 2017 at First Presbyterian Church, 1100 S. Harrison St. Amarillo, Texas 79101 with Dr. Murray Gossett officiating. Private burial will be at Llano Cemetery. Arrangements are by Schooler Funeral Home, 4100 S. Georgia, Amarillo, Texas 79110.


Phyllis was born June 11, 1941 in Gilmer, Texas to T.J. and Evelyn Amos Petty. She graduated from Longview High School in 1958 then attended Kilgore Junior College, and University of Texas Medical Branch, B.S. School of Nursing. Phyllis worked as a nurse in obstetrics for the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston, TX. On December 23, 1961 she married the love of her life, Dr. Charles Kerr Hendrick. They recently celebrated 55 years together.


Phyllis was a member of many organizations including the Opportunity School, Amarillo Junior League Sustaining Member PEO Chapter Z, Goodnight Circle Member of the Panhandle Plains Historical Society, Legacy Circle of the Panhandle Plains Historical Society and Potter Randall County Medical Alliance. She was also an active member of First Presbyterian Church of Amarillo, Texas.


Phyllis’ greatest love was seeing her two granddaughters Katie and Abbie. Whether it was going to get a new Barbie or decorating a “bunny cake” with many vibrant colors of icing. Phyllis loved cooking and could not wait to try new recipes. One of her greatest joys was to cook “Thanksgiving Dinner” in June when the grandkids came to town. When Phyllis was not trying new recipes or preparing for company, she enjoyed reading and checking email on her laptop computer. She loved going to Tres Ritos, NM. While everyone was out fishing, she got to spend her time reading new novels.


She was preceded in death by her parents; and daughter-in-law, Linda Hendrick.


Phyllis is survived by her husband, Dr. Charles K. Hendrick; two sons, Charles K. Hendrick, Jr. and Dr. Eric P. Hendrick and wife Amy; two granddaughters, Katelin Anne Hendrick and Abbie Jean Hendrick; a sister, Traci Owings and husband Dr. Keith  Owings; a brother, Don A. Petty and wife Judy; sister-in-law, Joann B. Hendrick; and numerous nieces and nephews.
