Rebecca "Becky" Stamps

October 4, 1950 — September 18, 2021

Rebecca Marie (Long) Stamps

On Saturday, September 18, Rebecca” Becky” Stamps passed away due to complications of COVID-19 in Amarillo, Texas.

Memorial service will be at 10:00 a.m., Friday, October 22, 2021 at Middlepoint Community Fellowship Church, 6700 W. Rockwell Rd. Private family inurnment will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Arrangements are by Schooler Funeral Home.

Becky was born to June and Earl Long on October 4, 1950.  She attended West Texas Collage at Canyon Texas where she majored in music.  An accomplished vocalist, Becky often performed for her church, Pleasant Valley Methodist, as well as select events at West Texas College.

She worked at Southwestern Bell Telephone beginning in Amarillo, San Antonio and then Dallas for 25 years.  Starting as an operator she worked her way up to heading the financial Maintenance Budget for Bell for the state of Texas.  Managing an account of more than $4.2B dollars.

As a result of restructuring at Southwest Bell, Becky and Wade decided to leave Bell and enjoyed some time together.  Later, acknowledging the desire to return to work, Becky decided to join Raytheon in 2004.  Once again, she worked her way up the corporate ladder to be become the go-to person for contract negotiations with the US Navy and Coast Guard.  After 14 years of service to Raytheon, she retired and returned to Amarillo to be closer with her father, Earl.

During her life Becky suffered several losses including her brother, Mike, in 2005.  Her mother, June, in 2006, her mother-in-law, Vermae, in 2007 and her sister, Rosemary in 2013.

One of Becky’s passions was the owning and breeding cairn terrier dogs.  Although she started out owning a “pet” cairn, over the years she made an indelible and international mark on the breed.  She was an avid advocate for the betterment of the breed. Especially in terms of movement, temperament, and dentation.

Becky purchased and showed Robinson Crusoe’s Quite Macho (aka Macho) to his American Kennel Club championship.  In doing so, she provided the entire US cairn terrier breed with the opportunity to improve the breed’s structure, movement, dentation, and temperament.  To this day, Macho stands as the cairn terrier who has sired more AKC cairn terrier champions than another other dog in the breed.  He also sired a number of champions around the world and could possibly hold the same distinction worldwide.

Cairn Terrier breeders and enthusiasts from the US, Canada, Mexico, Sweden, Denmark, the UK as well as other countries are mourning the loss of Becky as a mentor and lover of the breed.

Rebecca is survived by her husband, Wade Stamps, and father, Earl Long.
