Robert Howard Boyles

Robert Howard Boyles, 94, of Amarillo passed away Wednesday morning, August 1, 2018 in Amarillo.

A visitation will be held from 6-7:00 p.m., Friday, August 3, 2018 at Schooler Funeral Home Brentwood Chapel, 4100 S. Georgia St. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, August 4, 2018 at St. Stephen United Methodist Church, 4600 S. Western St. with the Rev. Jim Smith as officiant. Private graveside services will be held at Memory Gardens Cemetery.  Arrangements are by Schooler Funeral Home.

Howard was born on October 17, 1923 in Henrietta, Texas to R.B. and Eleanor Boyles. He was a World War II Navy Veteran having served aboard the USS Alhena in the South Pacific.

On July 4, 1950 he married Betty Orrell in Nocona, Texas. They had just celebrated their 68th wedding anniversary together.

Howard began his career in the oilfield industry having worked in many states. He retired from Axelson, Inc. in Pampa, Texas.

Howard was an excellent carpenter and enjoyed helping his family with projects. One of his favorite pastimes was watching sports. Most of all he will be remembered for being a loving and devoted husband, father, and grandfather.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and one brother, J.C. Boyles.

Howard Boyles is survived by his wife, Betty; 3 daughters, Debbie Atkin and husband, Lon of Georgetown, Diane Ray and husband, David of Amarillo, and Denise Matchett and husband, Rick of Amarillo; grandchildren, Aaron Atkin and wife, Petra, Laura Atkin, Bryce Ray and wife, Sam, Morgan Taton and husband, Josh, McKay McEowen and husband, Jonathan, and Brandt Matchett; and 6 great-grandchildren.
