T.H. “Hal” Haynie, 88, of Amarillo died Wednesday, November 29, 2017.

Memorial Services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Monday, December 4, 2017 at The Continental Chapel, 1300 S. Jackson St.  Arrangements are by Schooler Funeral Home, 4100 S. Georgia St., Amarillo.

Hal was born July 30, 1929 to Thomas Harold Haynie, Sr. and Ida Mae Haynie in Austin Texas and moved to Amarillo at the age of 7. He met the love of his life, Marjorie Wilson in 1942. Hal graduated from Amarillo High School in 1947. After attending The University of Texas for one year, he joined the United States Navy. He spent one year on the Battleship USS Toledo before returning to Austin to be part of the Airforce ROTC at U.T. where he earned a Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering. After pursuing a business career, Hal returned to school to earn Educational Certifications and followed that with a Masters in Special Education from the University of New Mexico.

Hal married Marjorie on December 27, 1951 at Polk Street United Methodist Church in Amarillo. He was an Engineer, Entrepreneur and an Educator owning Service Specialist Personnel in Amarillo for many years and later taught at Cimarron High School in Cimarron, NM.

Hal was a member of Rotary Club of Amarillo and Kiwanis Club of Cimarron, NM. He was an avid trout fisherman, RV traveler, and lover of family oriented experiences.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas Harold Haynie, Sr. and Ida Mae Haynie; and a beloved son, Brooks Haynie.

Hal is survived by his dear wife, “Marj”; daughter, Lisa Matteson and her husband Dale of Amarillo, TX; son, Blair Haynie and wife Mel of Houston, TX; grandchildren, Jaclyn and Garrett Haynie both of Dallas, TX; Andrew Matteson of Cambridge, MA; Nathan Matteson and wife Kasey of Colorado Springs, CO; Ben Whitten of Belton, TX; and great-grandchild Tyler Nellis of Houston, TX.
