Tanner Wayne Carney

Tanner Wayne Carney left this world on April 27, 2022 surrounded by his family.

The family will receive guests at Schooler Funeral Home on Sunday, May 1 ^st from 2:00 PM until 4:00 PM.

A memorial service to celebrate Tanner’s life will be held at 11:00 AM on Monday, May 2 in the chapel of Hillside Christian Church West with Rev. Greg Corona officiating.

The family requests that if you plan to attend the memorial service, please wear your Dallas Cowboy attire or the color grey for brain cancer awareness. Arrangements are by Schooler Funeral Home, 4100 S. Georgia.

Tanner was born on February 21, 1988 in Amarillo. He graduated from Randall High School in 2006 and went on to attend Amarillo College.  He married his best friend, Ashleigh Phillips on September 22, 2007.  The two grew up together, knowing one another since they were seventeen.

Tanner was a conductor for BNSF Railroad for eight years.  In 2018 he was diagnosed with brain cancer and he fought valiantly to beat the disease.  At the time of his diagnosis he was given eighteen months to live and he battled the disease fiercely for his wife, children and family for the next four years.

He enjoyed a lot of things like sports, even golf but he was passionate about the Dallas Cowboys.  Despite every loss the Cowboys were Tanner’s team! He had Dallas Cowboy blankets, jerseys, hats, you name it he had it.  Tanner could also be rather creative, he once saw a fire place he knew Margie, his mother would love.  One day he made it and the chairs to go along with it as well.  The family spent many precious moments enjoying his hard work.

Not only was Tanner a courageous man, he was a reliable, caring, loving and a humorous man.  He adored his siblings and was like a father to younger siblings.  He was the caretaker of his entire family, even as his health declined he ensured that his family and those he loved were taken care of first. Although he was known to be rather out-spoken, for the most part he was a giant teddy bear.  There are many roles that describe Tanner, son, brother, nephew, husband, friend, but perhaps the most important role to him was that of father.  He adored his three sons and strived to be the best father he could be.

There will never be another Tanner, the world has grown a bit dimmer, but his life and legacy will carry on in the lives of his family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his grandmother, Lillie Carney and an aunt, Mona Roberts.

Tanner is survived by his wife Ashleigh; by his three boys, Brayden, Brody and Britten all of the home; by his mother, Margie Carney of Amarillo; by his two sisters, Ashley Carney and her spouse Jamie of North Hampton, New Jersey and Madison Carney Jaramillo and her spouse Edgar of Amarillo; by his brother Greyson Carney of Amarillo; by his nieces, Kianna Mason and Adelyn Carney; by his nephews, Jace and Bryce Carney;  by his aunts, Brenda Budd and her spouse Cliff and Diana Wieck and her spouse Arnie all of Amarillo; his parents-in-law, Mark and Debbie Phillips of Amarillo; his sister-in-law, Holly Phillips and her spouse J.C. Hinajosa of Amarillo; his grandmother-in-law Patsy Bunch; and by his best friend, Ashton Gallop.
