David, Linda, and their mom, moved to Whiteflat to live with his Maternal Grandparents, Clovis and Addie Murphy.

At the age of five, David was driving his Grandad Clovis’s pickup to and from the field where Clovis was plowing, and, to and from Dixon’s Store and the Post Office in Whiteflat. At the age of seven, David was saved and baptized and joined the First Baptist Church at Whiteflat. As a straight A student, he went all the way through school in Matador graduating in 1964.  He loved Mrs. Whitworth’s Speech/Declamation Class.

A natural athlete, he was All-District and All South Plains in both Football and Basketball.  Regional was as far as Class B Schools could advance in the State Playoffs at that time, and David was fortunate enough to  play in four Regional Championship games during his four years of high school. He attended Texas Tech and received his Bachelor of Science in Agriculture in 1968.

His first job after receiving his Degree from Texas Tech was with W. R. Grace Chemical Company as a sales consultant in Weatherford, Oklahoma.

He married Sharlene Berryman, and they had one son, William Dax Rattan, born August 25, 1971.  Sharlene passed away in 1989 following many years of failing health due to Multiple Sclerosis.

David and Dax lived in Kansas, Van Horn, and the Panhandle where David farmed and  later moved to Amarillo where he sold big rig Trucks and later opened his own Dealership.  He retired from the Truck sales business about two years ago.

David was an active member of Range Riders and he and Dax were avid Team Ropers.  They qualified for the finals in Las Vegas, Nevada several times and won saddles, belt buckles and cash numerous times.  Dax has a roping arena, horse stalls, and bunkhouse at his home in Amarillo where they enjoyed roping with their friends.  David got up at 4 a.m. each day to feed the horses, right up until the night he passed away.

David married Marilyn Fuls George during this time, and gained two new sons just younger than Dax; Shane George and Garrett George.  He was blessed with three Grandchildren; William Dane Rattan, Blaize Rattan and Ashlan Kay George.
